Thursday 10/29/09

Well, so much has happened down on the farm and off the farm ! :) Last Saturday Farmer Boy and I went with friends from Wilton (Johnny Boy and Cheryl) to a Fantastic Benefit Concert for The Bridge School. The Bridge School is a not for profit school for children with communication challenges. The Concert Featured:Gavin Rossdale, Wolfmother, Fleet Foxes, Monsters of Folk, Sheryl Crow, Chris Martin, No Doubt and Neil Young! To say a good time was had by all would be barely covering the fun time we had. Johnny Boy sent me pictures...but they are somewhere lost in my computer...I can't find them. if you want to find out more information on the Bridge School and the Concert you can log onto: www.bridgeschool.org
Farmer Boy and I are planting our Hay crop/ Oats and Rye Grass. The farrier came yesterday and trimmed Legal Eagle and On Eagles wings toes, he also became interested in what and how we planted our hay crop. So....he hung around and learned to use the 100 year old seeder wagon with us! It was fun and I sorta felt like Tom Sawyer or was it Huck Finn (?)who got his pals to whitewash the fence.
We had a scare with Zane Gray, he must of eaten something that didn't agree with him and had a tummy ache for a couple of days and went off feed. Not like him at all, he is a monster eater! So, now he is back to his usual happy self. He tried to help the farrier trim toes yesterday and jumped up on the wagon to help plant too! That kitty!

back home

Well, I am back on sweet California home ground. My visit with Mom, sisters and brother was fine and dandy.
My Mom is about to turn 90 and "Looks Marvelous". Yes, Mom is the one with the naturally dark hair. I gues she got the good hair gene! My brother took us to lunch at Red Lobster and Mom's sister and husband , celebrated with us as well.
I was fascinated by the walking tunnel at DTW McNamara annex. Very cool and spacey with the music and lights in sync.
And how can you top going to Meijer's Grocery store!?!? Well, I guess it would be by going on Friday night with your brother or to see a young girl coming of age movie with your sister! Yes, we went to see "Whip It" , the Drew Barymore Roller Derby movie. I loved the message for young girls.....BE YOUR OWN HERO!
The time I spent at home on the Farm was delightful. Cheyenne , Jenni , Ricky (Jenni's horse)and I had some wonderful rides.
Cheyenne was responsive and connected and we had the best time wether riding alone or with friends.
Frisco was REALLY glad to see me and I was glad to see him too.
The barn cats seemed glad to see me too. Emmy Lou is a wonderful sweet kitty who loves to curl up in my lap. I missed my critters while I was away.
Farmer Boy met me at the airport and whisked me away to home sweet home.
Farmer Boy and Roy Boy got some welding done on the fences.woohooo.

Monday morning...

Well...last night we were taken from our bed ( fresh flannel sheets and comforter wrapped in flannel as well) twice! The first time was about 9 p.m. and Frisco our faithful and brave watchdog put out the alarm. A vehicle went flying by our house ( we are almost a mile from the road). We jumped up threw on the lights and our shoes and loaded up the truck, rifle, cell phone, pen, paper and mega watt flashlight in hand. We drove down to the bottom ( wifey telling hubby...stay calm, don't over react, be safe ) and saw the vehicle lights were already almost to the river. Well, we said lets see were they go...they seemed to be heading towards where they are harvesting grapes on a neighboring farm. We lost sight of the lights and headed home.
We thanked Frisco and went back to bed, discussing who it might have been and how we need to get the gate up and working!
Just when we were settled in and drifting off ... the vehicle! The barking watchdog and then Lights Flashing! All up by the house. We fly outside...Farmer Boy yell"who's there"?...We hear
" State Game Warden, come out to the road". So we go to the vehicle and the State Game Warden proceeds to tell us it was him that went flying through our place. He said he is after some body who is hunting deer at night....a poacher. We talked for a while and Zane came up and I held him as we talked. Frisco was on alert and so were we. The poachers have been illegally hunting deer. The dirty buggers, I hope they are caught soon. They shine their headlights on the deer and the poor deer freeze. The Game Warden suggested we don't give chase when trespassers come on our place as they most likey are hunting and meth heads as well. Great...Farm Living in the Modern Age.

Friday

This morning Frisco woke me up at 4:30 , so I was able to do my morning routine with ease. Water, coffee, meditate, feed and go for a walk with Frisco before coming in and getting ready to go to work. Thank you Frisco for starting my day. You are a good dog and I am grateful that you are part of my life.

learn to meditate, but don't try too hard

OK, so last night I went to a class on Meditation.
Sarah McLean from Sedona , Arizona taught the class. I will say that I enjoyed the class and got some insight into a Meditation Practice. We meditated together as a group and I started my own practice this morning in the barn. I will meditate twice a day for 5-20 minutes. I think it will have a good influence on my life.
These are pictures I took one morning with my dog Bailey. Bailey is gone now, but he was a very important part of the happiness in my life. Thank you Bailey Boy for the gifts you gave.
