the filly without a name now has a name!

And her name is :" Legal Eagle Milian"...Farmer Boy has a crush ( a mad crazy lusty - love crush )on Judge Marilyn Milian...yes...the TV judge on " The Peoples Court". If you want to know where he is during lunch time he is there with his girlfriend Judge M.M....aaah. farmer Boy sure has it rough....

Well, the farrier was here yesterday and Birdy (as I will call her) was good student she tried to see if the the farrier was patient and kind and he was. She settled in and got her pedicure. And all is well with the world. I am posting her baby pictures.

Out on the Town

Well last night down on the farm we went to town...in fact we went a few towns over.We went o Davis and had burgers and beer at Burgers and Brews . I had the Jalapeno, Bacon Cheese Burger ( with a salad...great greens) and Farmer Boy had the Spicy Gaucamole Burger ( curly fries on the side)....a couple of bitter/hoppy beers and we had a fine dinner in town. after dinner we mosied on over to The Mondavi Center and enjoyed an evening with Merle Haggard and the Strangers. Noah Haggard and the Malpass brothers opened up the show. Merle did a fine job, plenty of emotion and fine singing and musicianship. Good job for a man in his 70's who had half a lung removed last spring.
And that is what we did down on the farm last night...tonight I imagine we will be snoring and making up for lost sleep.

First Day of Fall?

Well the calendar may say it was the first day of Fall, but as far as Frisco is concerned it is still summer. It is Summer until the watermelon season is over!

Tuesday

Well, yesterday evening I went out to spend some time with the Filly Who Doesn't Have A Name. We had a grand time. She walked up to me, I haltered her, put fly spray on her and she was very happy. I threw (gently) the rope over her head a couple of times from each side. She was fine with that. :) I gently threw the rope over her back and slid it across a few times from each side and under her belly too. Then I threw the rope over her rump for good measure. She was fine with that. I took the rope and placed it around each leg and pulled gently and she lifted her leg and held it up for me, such a smart baby girl. When it was time to walk back to her Momma, I just started walking and she followed. We walked on a loose lead rope and I was just thrilled with my baby girl. She is so smart and I am fine with that.

This morning when Frisco and I were out for our morning walk he got the scent of something and ran circles of miles and miles before coming back to me. But, he came back and had a good run...and that is what happened down on the farm this morning.

Monday 9-21-09

Well...what can I say about this weekend?.....it was....fantastic! My friend Horsey Girl came over and we went out for a ride in the bottom land down on the farm. This was Cheyennes first ride longer than an hour...we rode for approx. 2 hrs. he did wonderful, he was brave and confident and happy to be out with his horse friend Maple!
Farmer Boy had a Disc Golf game at our place on Sunday and we grilled sausages after the game.
The weather has been cool in the morning and hot in the afternoon. I love the end of Summer.
Oh! And yesterday I took the young cats some tuna water and put it on their dry food. They ate until their tummies were full and then Zane sat by me and fell asleep. Emmy Lou climbed up on my lap and finally found her sleep comfort zone by having her legs pushed over lap and onto my elbow and she rested her head off my lap and in my hand of my outsretched left arm. So....we stayed thay way for about 5 minutes I guess. I just love my animals. yes, I am a happy bucket of mush when I am with my kitties.
Frisco and I had a great walk this morning...the air was cool, the sun was just coming up and we were renewed.
Back to work today...

this beautiful morning

This morning as I was standing with the mare and baby while they munched on their grass hay and looked up to the sky I could see a sliver of the moon above where the sun was rising. I was holding Zane Grey as Emmy Lou curled around my leg...the stars were still out and the morning star seemed so bright. It was a moment that made me really appreciate being alive. I felt connected to nature.
Frisco and I went out for a walk, I put fly spray on the girls and boys. Every one semed so calm and content this morning...seemingly knowing that Summer is winding down and Fall is on it's way.
Cheyenne and I had a good ride last night, he is so funny. He wanted to buck a little when I was lunging him with his saddle at the lope. He is feeling good. I am so happy, he sprained his ankle earlier this year and this was our first ride since then. I had forgotten how wonderful it is to connect with him. I am so lucky to have Cheyenne in my life.

oh before I forget

Ok so not to sound too J. Powell but...last night I made salmon steaks sauteed in olive oil and butter with crispy garlic, steamed swiss chard ( olive oil and balsamic vinegar)and rice with almond pilaf. For farmer Boys dessert I made an Apple/Walnut Tort by Giada Whats-er-name. It has dried cranberries soaked in Gran Marnier, walnuts, cinnamon, vanilla, grated apples, eggs, sugar and flour...and orange peel. Very tasty Farmer Boy said.

run kitty run

This morning Frisco and I were out walking after I fed the girls and watered the boys...folded and put away dry clothes and put another load on to wash...6:20 a.m. out and about...walking behind the barn towards Deer Creek, when what do I see dashing through the back pasture , out the corner of the fence and towards the creek? Why our local Mountain Lion. I called Frisco to me (luckily he came ) so he wouldn't chase the cat...(I don't think he would win that fight)...and we watched it run into the creek/tree area.
When I got back to the house I told Farmer Boy and he said he was going to look for tracks this morning...be careful Farmer Boy...don't want you to be a treat for a kitty.
So, that was my morning ....down on the farm.

Well, here are the pictures of Farmer Boy and his friend Euro Boy. we had a great visit.
Well, now back to Farm Time: Farmer Boy disced ground yesterday and it worked up OK.
I brought my tack back to the barn and got it placed so I have easy access when I tack up Cheyenne.
I went out to play with Cheyenne and Renter Boy and The Neighbor were out in the corral with a cow and calf. I guess the calf wasn't nursing. They got the cow in the stocks and did some introducing and some milking...after a while they let them be together and mother-up as they say. This morning on my way out the road I saw the mother and calf together and the mother was licking her calf's head...so...maybe everything will work out fine for them.

September 14th, 2009

Well, life was a whirlwind down on the farm this weekend. Summer wasn't sure if it was staying and Fall wanted to come on in...We had sprinkles Saturday morning and a soft rain last night into this morning.

Friday night we partied with our Country Friends...Football Draft for Farmer Boy and Football Widow party for me.
Saturday we went to town for dinner with friends at Tres Hermanas...mmm soo good.I had Chille Rellennos, Farmer Boy had the Shrimp Diablos.A pitcher of Margaritas made the conversation lively. And then a spin around Mid-Town for Second saturday Art Festival. The streets were alive with people and the atmosphere was fun and friendly.

Our friend ( Euro Boy) took some pictures of our ponies...when he sends them I will post them. It's always interesting to see someone elses perspective on your life...

Friday...whew

Well last night down on the farm I walked with the two boys around their pasture while our renter checked a cow who he thought had twins. The boys (Cheyenne and Vicarious Bill) walked and talked with me and we put as many miles as we could on our hooves and toes. When our Renter (Cattle Boy) came back he was without a cow and babies...he said" well, I saw a cow nursing one calf and lickin' off another, so I figured they were both hers. When I checked them yesterday one calf was off by itself, so I took it back to it's momma. Tonight when I checked, it was nursing from another momma....". When I told Farmer Boy this story , he said" well I guess any old tit will do"...such is life ...down on the farm.

all in the day...

Well the filly without a name is 4 months old and got her first shots yesterday...5-way and West Nile. She was a very good girl for the Vet...(Dr T.). She stayed with us and didn't jump or bite or kick. What a fine girl she is.

Well, I forgot to mention the Rattlesnake from Saturday night....there I was walking up to the barn to feed the cats...10:30 p.m.ish and I hear a sizzle a rattle and not quite sure what it is ...I am thinking...snake? bug? Well, I walk past and feed the cats and come back by and shine a little flashlight on it. Well, there it is in all it's glory...rattlesnake deluxe..coiled and sizzling.

I high tail it back to the house and ask Farmer Boy if he is able to come out and kill him a rattler...he grabs his pants and the rifle and by the time we get back....no snake.

Well , that was enough excitement for a saturday night.

Farmer Boy says" why do you see all the snakes this year"? I reminded him that he got to see the mountain lion first this year.

Working in town today...not down on the farm. Woke up and wanted to go back to bed...it is dark in the morning now and blankets and pillows are so very inviting. Oh, well, rise and shine ...or at least grab some coffee, feed the animals and walk the dog and myself! Strong coffee to start the day and greet the sun with the dogggie.
This weekend was busy, freinds in town...lots to do...Farmer Boy was at the Fair each day watching the races.I made hamburger/lamburgers on the grill saturday.Boiled corn and ate outside...the cat Zane Grey is teaching Frisco that cats can come in the yard...very good teacher he is.
Tonite I will feed the animals and us humans and walk the doggie again..small pleasures that last a lifetime. What to make I do not know...we will see.
Tuesday September 8th, 2009.

Working today...in town...not down on the farm. All I wanted to do this morning was sleep in! It is dark when I get up now, and the bed and blankets are so inviting.

Well, the mare and filly were glad I got up. The filly was full of vim and vigor this morning. Running and bucking was the order of the day. Frisco was glad I got up, we had a good walk as the sun was coming up. Strong coffee helps too :)

When I get home..after going to my weigh in and encouragement to stay on a healthy life path...it will be feeding the animals and the humans and walking the dog again.

Down on the Farm...not always...

September 4th, 2009

Well, down on the farm this morning ,I woke up at 4:45a.m. and Frisco my 4 year old Aussie dog and I stumbled into the kitchen. As my Farmer boy husband David, was asleep , I got Frisco his kibble and he headed out to keep an eye on the yard and meet the sun. Iput on a load of laundry, got my coffee and read abit from "My Life in France" and then headed outside as well. I was met by my young cats Zane Grey and EmmyLou, they beat feet to the barn for their morning meal. I then was greeted by the older Barn Cats, Fuzzy and Hank and they ate their breakfasts in the shop...I suppose they are "shop cats" now, since they moved out of the barn when the young cats arrived.
Now out to the pastures to feed the mare and her filly, Princess Eagle Eyes and the filly with no name as yet. Across the gravel drive Cheyenne and My Viacarious Bill were waiting for some attention too. well they had plenty of hay, so I put fly spray on them and scratched where they needed scratching.
Back to the house to clean up and head into town for work.
